So, every closet I've entered or client I've shopped for, I always make sure to incorporate at least one outfit of mixed patterns. Most are put off by the thought at first - lots of hesitation - but once they see how cute it can actually be - it's instant love! And I couldn't agree more. Mixing patterns is an easy way to instantly look ahead of the trend and feel fashion forward. And the bonus, this works great for those moms at home as well as for the working mama - love this for the office! Mixing it up is also a guaranteed good time for a girls night on the town or a date night!
My first and most important rule - make sure there are matching colors among the patterns. If not, it can just look plain terrible. There needs to be some fluidity between the pieces since the patterns are so different. My other rule is to take it easy..little bit at a time..literally. Maybe a plaid flannel with a leopard belt (leopard is always a neutral) and pair of jeans...that's an easy and simple way to move slowly into this trend.
The main thing working against this cuteness is that it can instantly look hideous if done the wrong way. Things can quickly go from cute and current to catastrophe and clashy real fast..so take it slow and in small steps!
